Where to eat (* = we have been there, ! = recommended)

Roasted Chicken

For superb takeaway chicken and chips go to Mayte: Take the N340 to Chiclana and at the first roundabout turn left. Follow the road and at the third roundabout turn right. After the first roundabout Casa Mayte is on the left. Chicken is available from 20:30 onwards!

El Colorado

  • * La 'Artesana' (closed on Tuesday) especially if you arrive late at night and are starving go to this Italian restaurant. This small restaurant has excellent food at resonable prices, and very friendly staff. We can recommend the “ Provolone Diavolo” for cheese fundies, spaghetti, foccacia and pizza’s.

  • * Hotel Restaurant Antonio which is the next entrance from 'La Artesana'. During the Tuna Festival in the month of May they serve an exquisite Tuna menu preparated in various ways (check dates locally).

  • * 'Venta El Colorado' serves a great menu at 14:00 at an unbeatable price! Recommended.

Conil

  • * Restaurant 'Francisco la Fontanilla' situated on the beach at the end of the village serves fabulous fish dishes. A very nice place but often crowed so make a reservation: +34 956 44 08 02

  • * Cerveceria 'Tres Hermanos' facing the entrance of the underground market parking, where the tapas are very good and they serve beer from all over the world. The brothers who own this establishment change the tapas menu daily, meaning that there are very seldom repeats. Did you ever taste sea-anemone?

  • * Restaurant 'Casa Mercedes' is located in the Calle Virgen de la Luz and serves delicious food at a very reasonable price. The easiest way to get there is by taking the N340 to Conil and at the last roundabout take the A2233 into Conil. After the 4th roundabout take the Calle Pascual Junquera and take the Calle Benavente to the left. Keep left and park your car. Highly recommended!

  • * Restaurant 'Vascook': for something completely different! If you like Basque food which is delicious prepared and very well served, this is the place to go! Best to make a reservation: +34 607 30 64 84, because it has become famous within the last year. Take the road to Conil and in El Colorado turn right in front of 'Venta El Colorado'. Follow the road through the woods until you will see a Pizzeria on your right hand. Go left and follow the road. You will find the restaurant on your left hand, just before a roundabout.

San Andres Golf

  • * You can walk to the entrance  of the Golf Club in about 15 minutes and have a reasonably priced good lunch there. Walk to the ringway, go right along the 'Casas Andaluzas' and follow the road to the roundabout. Keep right to the entrance of the Club and enjoy your meal.

  • * The nearby Chiringuito is located in the 'Casas Andaluzas' and only open in high season, when the Spaniards are there. Walk to the ringway, go right and turn right if you can see the tenniscourt after the small parking place. Pass the tenniscourt and go straight on to this little jewel. The food is nothing much, but the atmosphere is very special: you will be the only ones from abroad amid the 'locals', their dogs and children which are all running around untill late.

  • * Another Chiringuito 'Local Social' is located a bit further to the roundabout. If you have passed the two big bumps in the road there is an arch on your right side. Go in and the 'Local Social' is on your left side. We had wonderfull 'Fish and Chips' for 6.50 Euro!

Vejer de la Frontera

  • * 'La Califa' on the Plaza España in Vejer is not as good as they advertise. However getting from the entrance of the Hotel to the Restaurant is quite exciting and the outdoor dining place is a beauty!

  • ! 'Las Delicias' on Corredera is situated in an old theatre with high ceilings and well worth a visit. Everything home-made.

La Muela (on the way to Vejer on the left)

  • * 'La Patria' serves very good food. Owned by a Danish couple that certainly know how to cook! Enjoy the dishes, the relaxed atmosphere and the magnificent view all the way to Conil. Opening hours are on their Website: you should definitely make a reservation first!

  • * 'Sindhura' at the Silo's to the left serves excellent food. See their comprehensive menu on their Website. This is a Hotel as well, so if needed you can spend a luxury night right here!

  • * 'Il Forno' is a very special Italian restaurant: you cannot make a reservation here! Be there at 21:00 hours and wait untill the rope is removed to let you in. The food is well worth waiting for and exceptional value for money!

Santa Lucia (go to Vejer and as the road becomes two-way turn left, which is forbidden, so you have to turn the car after about 500 m.)

  • ! 'La Castilleria' opposite the church: you should make a reservation here +34 956 451 497.

  • * 'El Toro' at the entrance of the village on the right side of the small road. This one is well worth a visit in the afternoon: good food at a reasonable price and very relaxed. This is a bit like coming home! Go for the other side of the road and have a seat above a small stream: best to make a reservation +34 956 45 14 07. If you want to burn the calories you just absorbed and would like a very special walk in the neighbourhood, then here is something you should not miss: Watermills.

Zahara de los Atunes (take the highway to Vejer, turn right to Barbate and follow the signs)

The 'Ruta de Atun' is a special competition in may between the 39 restaurants of this charming little place. You have to sign in first to get the map of the restaurants and what they serve. Each Tuna speciality is 3.50 Euro including one drink. If you are in may then don't miss this great gourmet adventure!

Cadiz (Tapas)

If you happen to be here around noon and would like to eat the best tapas in Cadiz, go to the Plaza de Mina and visit 'Meson Cumbres Mayores' in the Calle Zorrilla. Be there at one o'clock to be sure to have a seat at the bar, otherwise you have to take a stand. They serve delicious tapas at a reasonable price.

Coming from the 'Plaza de las Flores' enter the market and take the left side. Take one of the wooden stands and buy all the tapas you can imagine all around you. Be sure to be here between 1 and 3 in the afternoon and have an exciting experience!

Jerez

Not in the center but located near the Royal Andalucian School of Equestrian Art is the restaurant 'La Albala'. Very good food in a relaxing atmosphere.

Chiringuitos (simple restaurants on the beach)

Novo Sancti Petri

  • * 'Albatros' One of our favourites and a 15 minutes drive. To get there take the N-340 to Conil and turn right at the sign 'Urb. Novo Sancti Petri'. Follow the road and at the second roundabout (near the red hotel) take the first exit. Follow the road until you see a sign 'Albatros' on the right and go left. Park your car at the end and walk down to the sea. Very good coffee and delicious seaweed-croquettes.

  • * 'Casa Luis' Take the same route as described above, but at the second roundabout take the third exit. Follow the road until you see a sign 'Chiringuito' to the right. Park your car where the road ends and walk to the beach. Open in high season only.

Sancti Petri

  • * 'Chiringuito Apretaito' for a wonderfull sunset and great music. The owner of this lovely little place is from the Dominican Republic and so is the music. To get there take the N-340 to Chiclana and at the first roundabout turn left. At the third roundabout turn left, at the first roundabout turn right and follow the road which turns into a long parking place. If you see flags on your left hand, park your car and walk to the beach. Fabulous Tortillitas de camerones!.
